Summary

An issue was discovered in Atos Eviden iCare versions 2.7.1 through 2.7.11. The application exposes a web interface locally. In the worst-case scenario, if the application is remotely accessible, it allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with system privilege on the endpoint hosting the application, without any authentication.

Impact

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to gain complete control over the affected system. The attacker could execute arbitrary commands with system privileges, potentially leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data, modification of system configurations, installation of malware, or complete system compromise. This could result in severe data breaches, service disruptions, or use of the compromised system as a launching point for further attacks within the network.

Exploitation

There is no evidence that a public proof-of-concept exists. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the vulnerability disclosure, there is no mention of a specific patch. Users should check with Atos Eviden for updates or patches addressing this vulnerability for iCare versions 2.7.11 and earlier.

Mitigation

1. Immediately update Atos Eviden iCare to a version newer than 2.7.11 if available. 2. If updating is not immediately possible, ensure that the application's web interface is not accessible from untrusted networks. 3. Implement strong network segmentation to isolate systems running Atos Eviden iCare. 4. Use a web application firewall (WAF) to filter malicious traffic. 5. Monitor systems for suspicious activities, particularly focusing on unexpected command executions. 6. Implement the principle of least privilege for all user accounts and services. 7. Regularly audit and review system logs for any signs of compromise.

This vulnerability is due to improper user authorization and insufficient validation of command arguments. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting crafted commands to an affected REST API endpoint or through the web UI. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the CLI of a Cisco NDFC-managed device with network-admin privileges. Note: This vulnerability does not affect Cisco NDFC when it is configured for storage area network (SAN) controller deployment. 2024-10-02 9.9 CVE-2024-20432 ykramarz@cisco.com n/a–n/a The WebDAV service in Infinera TNMS (Transcend Network Management System) 19.10.3 allows a low-privileged remote attacker to conduct unauthorized file operations, because of execution with unnecessary privileges.

The CISA Vulnerability Bulletin provides a summary of new vulnerabilities that have been recorded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Vulnerability Database (NVD) in the past week. In some cases, the vulnerabilities in the bulletin may not yet have assigned CVSS scores. Please visit NVD for updated vulnerability entries, which include CVSS scores once they are available. Vulnerabilities are based on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) vulnerability naming standard and are organized according to severity, determined by the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) standard. The division of high, medium, and low severities correspond to the following scores: High : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 7.0–10.0 Medium : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 4.0–6.9 Low : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 0.0–3.9 Entries may include additional information provided by organizations and efforts sponsored by CISA. This information may include identifying information, values, definitions, and related links.
It's time to name and shame as Eviden, a supposed "next-gen technology leader in data-driven, trusted and sustainable digital transformation" decided to sit on a CVSSv3.1 perfect 10.0 critical vulnerability 🥳 (cc: @ cR0w ) in Atos Eviden iCare tracked as CVE-2024-42017 for a full year. The CVE was assigned 30 September but this has been known since at least 07 February 2024 (they drafted up a security bulletin on 13 November 2023). The end result? "Given the obsolescence of the product, it was decided not to patch the vulnerabilities..." In the worst-case scenario, if the application is remotely accessible, it allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with system privilege on the endpoint hosting the application, without any authentication. I think the worst case scenario is using Eviden products. What exactly is iCare? "This product is an administrative tool to manage the hardware of several servers of the Bullion S and BullSequana S family. Its goal is to ease firmware patching and server sensors monitoring."
