Summary

The Wechat Social login plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authentication bypass in versions up to, and including, 1.3.0. This vulnerability is due to insufficient verification of the user being supplied during the social login process. It allows unauthenticated attackers to log in as any existing user on the site, including administrators, if they have access to the user id. This vulnerability is only exploitable if the app secret is not set, resulting in a default empty value.

Impact

This vulnerability has a severe impact on the affected WordPress sites. Attackers can bypass authentication and gain unauthorized access to user accounts, including those with administrative privileges. This could lead to complete compromise of the WordPress site, allowing attackers to modify content, install malicious plugins, access sensitive information, or perform any action available to the compromised user account. The potential for escalation to administrative access makes this vulnerability particularly dangerous, as it could result in full control over the affected WordPress installation.

Exploitation

There is no evidence that a public proof-of-concept exists. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

A patch is not explicitly mentioned in the provided information. However, given that the vulnerability affects versions up to and including 1.3.0 of the Wechat Social login plugin for WordPress, it is likely that an update addressing this issue would be released in a version newer than 1.3.0. Users should check for and install the latest version of the plugin as soon as it becomes available.

Mitigation

There are several mitigation steps that can be taken: 1. Ensure that the app secret for the Wechat Social login plugin is properly set and not left at its default empty value. This will prevent the vulnerability from being exploitable. 2. Update the Wechat Social login plugin to a version newer than 1.3.0 as soon as a patched version is available. 3. If an immediate update is not possible, consider disabling the Wechat Social login plugin until a patch can be applied. 4. Implement additional authentication measures, such as two-factor authentication, to add an extra layer of security. 5. Regularly audit user accounts and access privileges to detect any unauthorized access or suspicious activities. 6. Monitor WordPress and plugin logs for any signs of exploitation attempts or successful unauthorized logins.

This vulnerability is due to improper user authorization and insufficient validation of command arguments. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting crafted commands to an affected REST API endpoint or through the web UI. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the CLI of a Cisco NDFC-managed device with network-admin privileges. Note: This vulnerability does not affect Cisco NDFC when it is configured for storage area network (SAN) controller deployment. 2024-10-02 9.9 CVE-2024-20432 ykramarz@cisco.com n/a–n/a The WebDAV service in Infinera TNMS (Transcend Network Management System) 19.10.3 allows a low-privileged remote attacker to conduct unauthorized file operations, because of execution with unnecessary privileges.

US-CERT Vulnerability Summary for the Week of September 30, 2024
The CISA Vulnerability Bulletin provides a summary of new vulnerabilities that have been recorded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Vulnerability Database (NVD) in the past week. In some cases, the vulnerabilities in the bulletin may not yet have assigned CVSS scores. Please visit NVD for updated vulnerability entries, which include CVSS scores once they are available. Vulnerabilities are based on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) vulnerability naming standard and are organized according to severity, determined by the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) standard. The division of high, medium, and low severities correspond to the following scores: High : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 7.0–10.0 Medium : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 4.0–6.9 Low : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 0.0–3.9 Entries may include additional information provided by organizations and efforts sponsored by CISA. This information may include identifying information, values, definitions, and related links.
