Summary

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in D-Link DIR-605L router firmware version 2.13B01 BETA. The vulnerability affects the formSetPassword function in the /goform/formSetPassword file. Manipulation of the curTime argument can lead to a buffer overflow. This is a remotely exploitable vulnerability, and the exploit has been publicly disclosed.

Impact

This vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8. It allows remote attackers to potentially execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service on the affected D-Link DIR-605L routers. The buffer overflow in the formSetPassword function could lead to unauthorized access, data manipulation, or complete system compromise. The vulnerability has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, posing a significant risk to the security of the affected devices and the networks they protect. Given the low attack complexity and the fact that it can be launched remotely with only low privileges required, this vulnerability should be considered a high priority for patching.

Exploitation

One proof-of-concept exploit is available on github.com. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the current information, there is no mention of an available patch. The vulnerability affects D-Link DIR-605L firmware version 2.13B01 BETA. Users should regularly check the D-Link support website for any security updates or patches that may become available.

Mitigation

While waiting for an official patch, consider implementing the following mitigation strategies: 1. Limit remote access to the router's management interface. 2. Use strong, unique passwords for router access. 3. Implement network segmentation to isolate potentially vulnerable devices. 4. Monitor for unusual activities or unauthorized access attempts. 5. Consider using a firewall or intrusion detection system to protect the vulnerable device. 6. If possible, consider replacing the affected router with a more secure alternative until a patch is available. 7. Regularly check for firmware updates from D-Link and apply them promptly when available.
