Summary

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in D-Link DIR-619L B1 version 2.06. The vulnerability affects the formEasySetPassword function in the /goform/formEasySetPassword file. By manipulating the curTime argument, an attacker can cause a buffer overflow. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely and has been publicly disclosed.

Impact

The impact of this vulnerability is severe. If exploited, it could lead to complete compromise of the affected system's confidentiality, integrity, and availability. An attacker could potentially execute arbitrary code, gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, modify system data, or cause system crashes. Given the network-based attack vector and low attack complexity, this vulnerability poses a significant risk to affected devices.

Exploitation

One proof-of-concept exploit is available on github.com. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the current information provided, there is no mention of an available patch. It is recommended to check with D-Link for any security updates or patches specifically addressing this vulnerability in the DIR-619L B1 router firmware.

Mitigation

Until a patch is available, consider the following mitigation strategies: 1. Limit network exposure of the affected devices. Place them behind firewalls and isolated from the internet where possible. 2. Implement strong access controls and use complex passwords for device administration. 3. Monitor for any suspicious activities or unauthorized access attempts. 4. If feasible, consider temporarily disabling remote administration features. 5. Regularly check for and apply any firmware updates provided by D-Link. 6. Consider replacing the affected devices with newer models that have better security features if no patch becomes available.

US-CERT Vulnerability Summary for the Week of October 7, 2024
The CISA Vulnerability Bulletin provides a summary of new vulnerabilities that have been recorded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Vulnerability Database (NVD) in the past week. In some cases, the vulnerabilities in the bulletin may not yet have assigned CVSS scores. Please visit NVD for updated vulnerability entries, which include CVSS scores once they are available. Vulnerabilities are based on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) vulnerability naming standard and are organized according to severity, determined by the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) standard. The division of high, medium, and low severities correspond to the following scores: High : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 7.0–10.0 Medium : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 4.0–6.9 Low : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 0.0–3.9 Entries may include additional information provided by organizations and efforts sponsored by CISA. This information may include identifying information, values, definitions, and related links.
