Summary

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in D-Link DIR-619L B1 version 2.06. The issue affects the formLogDnsquery function in the /goform/formLogDnsquery file. Manipulation of the curTime argument can lead to a buffer overflow vulnerability. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely and has been publicly disclosed.

Impact

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to potentially execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service on the affected D-Link router. The impact is severe, with high risks to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. Attackers could potentially gain unauthorized access, modify system configurations, or disrupt network services. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8 and a CVSS v4.0 base score of 8.7, both indicating high severity. The attack vector is network-based, requires low attack complexity, and no user interaction, making it relatively easy to exploit.

Exploitation

One proof-of-concept exploit is available on github.com. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the current information, there is no mention of an available patch for this vulnerability. Users of the affected D-Link DIR-619L B1 router should monitor for updates from D-Link and apply any security patches as soon as they become available.

Mitigation

While waiting for a patch, consider the following mitigation steps: 1. Limit network exposure of the affected device. Place the router behind a firewall and restrict access to trusted IP addresses only. 2. Disable remote management features if not absolutely necessary. 3. Regularly monitor for and apply firmware updates from D-Link as soon as they become available. 4. Consider replacing the affected device with a newer, more secure model if possible. 5. Implement strong, unique passwords for all router access points. 6. Disable any unnecessary services or features on the router to reduce the attack surface.
