Summary

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in the D-Link DIR-619L B1 router, version 2.06. The vulnerability affects the formSetPortTr function in the /goform/formSetPortTr file. It allows for a buffer overflow attack through the manipulation of the curTime argument. This is a remotely exploitable vulnerability that can be initiated without user interaction.

Impact

The impact of this vulnerability is severe. With a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8 (High), it poses significant risks to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected systems. Successful exploitation could lead to: 1. Unauthorized access: Attackers may gain control over the router, potentially compromising the entire network. 2. Data theft: The high confidentiality impact suggests that sensitive information could be exposed. 3. System manipulation: With high integrity impact, attackers could alter system files or configurations. 4. Service disruption: The high availability impact indicates that the router's functionality could be severely affected, possibly leading to network outages. Given the low attack complexity and the ability to exploit remotely with low privileges, this vulnerability presents an attractive target for malicious actors.

Exploitation

One proof-of-concept exploit is available on github.com. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the latest information provided, there is no mention of an available patch. The security team should monitor D-Link's official channels for any security updates or patches for the DIR-619L B1 router, version 2.06.

Mitigation

While awaiting a patch, consider the following mitigation strategies: 1. Network segmentation: Isolate affected routers in a separate network segment to limit potential impact. 2. Access control: Implement strict access controls to limit who can interact with the router's management interface. 3. Firewall rules: Configure firewall rules to restrict incoming connections to the router, especially on ports that may be associated with the vulnerable function. 4. Monitoring: Implement enhanced monitoring for any suspicious activities related to the affected routers. 5. Update firmware: Check for and apply any available firmware updates from D-Link that may address this vulnerability. 6. Consider replacement: If possible, consider replacing the affected routers with alternative models that are not vulnerable to this specific exploit. Given the critical nature of this vulnerability and its high CVSS score, addressing this issue should be prioritized in the patching and remediation efforts.
