Summary

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in D-Link DIR-619L B1 router firmware version 2.06. The vulnerability affects the formVirtualServ function in the /goform/formVirtualServ file. The issue arises from improper input validation of the curTime argument, which can lead to a buffer overflow condition. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, and a public exploit is already available.

Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to severe consequences. The attacker could potentially execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges, leading to complete compromise of the affected device. Given the high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability (all rated as HIGH in CVSS v3.1), attackers could: 1. Gain unauthorized access to sensitive information stored or transmitted through the router. 2. Modify or corrupt data, potentially affecting the router's configuration or redirecting traffic. 3. Disrupt the router's normal operation, causing denial of service to legitimate users. 4. Use the compromised router as a pivot point to launch further attacks on the internal network.

Exploitation

One proof-of-concept exploit is available on github.com. There is no evidence of proof of exploitation at the moment.

Patch

As of the provided information, there is no mention of an available patch for this vulnerability. Given the critical nature of the issue and the public availability of an exploit, it is crucial to monitor D-Link's official channels for any security updates or patches that may be released to address this vulnerability.

Mitigation

In the absence of a patch, consider the following mitigation strategies: 1. Disable remote management of the router if not strictly necessary. 2. Implement strong network segmentation to isolate affected devices. 3. Monitor for any suspicious activities or unauthorized access attempts. 4. Consider replacing the affected D-Link DIR-619L B1 routers with alternative, secure devices if possible. 5. Regularly check for and apply any firmware updates provided by D-Link. 6. Implement strong, unique passwords for router access. 7. Use a firewall to restrict incoming connections to the router. 8. Disable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) if not required, as it can potentially expose the router to external threats.

US-CERT Vulnerability Summary for the Week of October 7, 2024
The CISA Vulnerability Bulletin provides a summary of new vulnerabilities that have been recorded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Vulnerability Database (NVD) in the past week. In some cases, the vulnerabilities in the bulletin may not yet have assigned CVSS scores. Please visit NVD for updated vulnerability entries, which include CVSS scores once they are available. Vulnerabilities are based on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) vulnerability naming standard and are organized according to severity, determined by the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) standard. The division of high, medium, and low severities correspond to the following scores: High : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 7.0–10.0 Medium : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 4.0–6.9 Low : vulnerabilities with a CVSS base score of 0.0–3.9 Entries may include additional information provided by organizations and efforts sponsored by CISA. This information may include identifying information, values, definitions, and related links.
